Fresh Faces amongst the Human Rights Committee
6 new members join the Committee and election of a new Chairperson
Ms. Photini Pazartzis (Greece) has been elected as the new Chair of the Human Rights Committee
The Human Rights Committee welcomes to its Committe 6 new members and had a committee reshuffling amongst the members in the election of a new Chair and vice-chairs. Members are elected on the basis of them being independent experts in their fields, with a high moral character and a recognised competence in the field of Human Rights.
Members are voted on the basis of a 4 year term and then may be re-elected on this term ends. The Committee votes in chairs for a period of 2 years, where the Chair is responsible for the overall conduct of the Committee's work and this is done alongside 3 vice-chairs. Additionally, there is a rapporteur to whom the preparation of the Committee' annual report to the General Assembly is entrusted.
