About CCPR Centre

The Centre for Civil and Political Rights (CCPR-Centre) envisions the full implementation of and respect for all human rights worldwide, as proclaimed in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which has now been ratified by 173 States. To this end, the CCPR-Centre was established in 2008 with the mission to support NGO engagement with the UN Human Rights Committee (HR Committee), the body that monitors and promotes the implementation of the ICCPR. The CCPR-Centre aims to fulfil this vision by facilitating the application of the ICCPR and promoting the implementation of HR Committee recommendations, mainly through engaging with national NGOs, governments and Parliamentarians, as well as with other key stakeholders such as, inter alia, National Human Rights Institutions, inter-ministerial coordinating mechanisms, judicial institutions and bar associations.

Internship Description

The intern will conduct a variety of tasks related to the Human Rights Committee’s 139 session, including conducting pre-session research on countries up for review and liaising with NGOs and Committee members. An important part of the internship will be supporting the Centre’s staff in organizing the briefings for NGOs during the sessions, as well as being in charge of managing the dissemination of information throughout the session, via various social media channels and CCPR’s website. The intern will also support the Centre in other activities, such as: organizing and attending meetings with diplomatic missions, OHCHR, and/or other NGOs, doing research on various subjects, drafting reports of conferences and other activities.

Key Responsibilities

- Attending the 139 session of the Human Rights Committee and support national NGOs during the State Reporting process;

- Updating the Centre’s social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and CCPR’s website;

- Doing research on various trending topics, drafting reports, organizing and participating in meetings.


- Knowledge of international human rights law and UN human rights protection mechanisms;

- Fluency in English (knowledge of French, Russian or Spanish would be an asset);

- Experience in photography and graphic and web design would be an asset;

- Experience with social media (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) would be an asset;

- The intern should be self-motivated, organised and flexible.

Additional information

- Dates of Internship: 25 September - 15 December 2023. Full-time position; 

- Due to limited funds available, the Centre is only in position to provide a DSA of 750.- CHF per month; 

- Due to Swiss restrictive work permit regulations, this position requires a valid Swiss work permit;
