The 120th session of the Human Rights Committee took place in Geneva from the 3rd to the 28th of July 2017.
The Committee reviewed the reports of six States on the implementation of the ICCPR: Honduras, Liechtenstein, Madagascar, Mongolia, Pakistan and Switzerland.
It also reviewed Swaziland in absence of State report.
The the Lists of Issues in relation to the reports of Lebanon and Liberia, as well as the List of Issues Prior to Reporting (simplified reporting procedure) in relation to Chad, Czech Republic, Peru were adopted and will be available in the coming weeks.
The report adopted on the Follow-up to Concluding Observations assesses the recent information received on the implementation of the Committee’s recommendations in relation to four States: Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Finland and Iceland. The report will be public in the coming weeks.
37 individual communications were examined, out of which 17 were found to have violations, 3 with no violation, 8 were inadmissible, 2 were admissible (merits will be discussed at the next session) and 7 were discontinued.
The Committee also adopted its report on the Follow-up to the Views, which analyses the progress on the implementation of recommendations based on the information received in relation to individual communications. The follow-up report will soon be made public.
The Human Rights Committee finalised its first reading of draft General Comment on article 6 of the ICCPR on the right to life and invites all interested stakeholders to comment on the Committee’s Draft by 6 October 2017.
