The new 3-year project aims to strengthen the protection of freedom of assembly and association, especially of the youth, in 9 countries.

The Centre for Civil and Political Rights, together with ForumCiv and COSPE (Cooperation for the Development of Emerging Countries), has started a 3-year global project "Our Rights, Our Future!" (OROF). The project is funded by EU and implemented in 9 countries in 4 regions (MENA, Latin America, Sub-saharan africa, and South-East Asia). It will be officially launched soon.

The main objective of the project is to enable rights holders, particularly marginalized youth, to have more opportunities to participate actively, safely, and meaningfully in civic space as drivers of change to promote and defend fundamental freedoms, democracy, and human rights. It puts particular focus on the protection and promotion of the right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly of the youth-led or youth-focused civil society organizations, grassroots groups, and national/international platforms.

For this purpose, the project overall aims to: train 600 youth activists especially women and those from marginalized groups to promote their leadership in society; protect the freedom of peaceful assembly and association in shrinking civic space; facilitate more than 100 grassroots and national initiatives for the protection of human rights; support 30 national, regional and global networks that promote youth-led civic participation and advocacy; and expand access to international human rights mechanisms for activists and civil society.

Our Team in Indonesia and Sri Lanka

CCPR Team in Sri Lanka

The Centre will mainly implement project activities in Indonesia and Sri Lanka and coordinate utilisation of international human rights mechanisms, while ensuring the protection and safety of participating human rights defenders and civil society organisations. For this, the Centre has built a team consisting of a focal point and an administrative officer in each country, led by our regional coordinator. The team will ensure effective implementation of the project in the country, assist bottom-up advocacy of the grassroots and national civil society, facilitate their engagement with international human rights mechanisms and develop joint actions for comprehensive protection of civil and political rights with sustainable impact on the ground. You can see the new look of the whole CCPR Centre staff here.

Collaboration with National Civil Society and Other Stakeholders

Effective collaboration with national civil society and promoting and facilitating their ownership of the actions are key element of the Centre’s approach. As the initial step of the OROF project, the Centre has been organising meetings and consultations with national stakeholders in Indonesia and Sri Lanka, especially the civil society organisations and human rights defenders among others to assess their needs and challenges and to develop constructive cooperation and joint actions.
