Human Rights Committee – 131st Session – March 2021

Published on 13 Nov 2020, 04:36 PM

A third online session with two states to be reviewed

It is now confirmed that the 131st session will also take place online.

The Human Rights Committee is the body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights by its State parties.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Human Rights Committee is not able to hold in-person meetings in the beginning of 2021. This means that also the 131st session of the Human Rights Committee will be held online. It will take place from 1 to 26 March 2021. The Programme of Work has been published and it's available here: https://bit.ly/37IywbO

Two States will be reviewed online, meaning Finland and Kenya. This will be done on a trial basis, due to the current situation that does not allow for in-person meetings.

The Committee will adopt the List of Issues Prior to Reporting of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Fiji, Grenada, Iceland, Malawi, Nepal, Sao Tome and Principe, Seychelles, United Republic of Tanzania. The adoption of the List of issues on Burundi has been postponed to July 2021.

In a public session, the Committee will adopt the Progress report of Special Rapporteur on Follow-up to the Concluding Observations of Jamaica, San Marino, Slovakia and Republic of Moldova.

It will also adopt Views to individual communications, but in closed meetings.

All the public discussions will be webcast here.

Please note that changes can still be made, in particular with regards to the review of State reports. Keep an eye on our Twitter account for the most recent updates.
