Human Rights Committee 120th session (July 2017)

Honduras, Liechtenstein, Madagascar, Mongolia, Pakistan, Swaziland and Switzerland scheduled for review

At its 120th session, the Human Rights Committee will review the State reports of Honduras, Liechtenstein, Madagascar, Mongolia, Pakistan and Switzerland.

Swaziland will be reviewed in absence of report.

The Committee will also adopt the List of Issues of Lebanon and Liberia and the List of Issues Prior to Reporting of Chad, Czech Republic and Peru.

The 120th session of the Human Rights Committee will take place in Geneva, Palais Wilson, from 3 to 28 July 2017.

Deadlines for NGO participation

  • 10 April 2017: NGO reports for List of Issues and List of Issues Prior to Reporting
  • 5 June 2017: NGO reports for State parties under review
  • 20 June 2017: Confirmation of participation at NGO briefings
  • 24 June 2017: Accreditation request here

NGO formal briefings

NGOs who have submitted a written report to the Human Rights Committee have the opportunity to speak at the formal briefing. Only one NGO representative per submitted report is allowed to take the floor at this briefing. 

The NGO formal briefing for Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Honduras, Mongolia and Swaziland is scheduled on Monday 3 July at 11.15 at the Conference Room, Ground Floor of Palais Wilson.

The NGO formal briefing for Madagascar and Pakistan will be on Monday 10 July at 12.30 at the Conference Room, Ground Floor of Palais Wilson.

If your NGO wishes to deliver an oral statement at the NGO formal briefing, please send an email to info@ccprcentre.org, no later than 20 June, indicating:

  • Name of the speaker
  • Name of the NGO
  • State (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Honduras, Mongolia, Swaziland, Madagascar or Pakistan)

Please attach your written report to this email.

Once all the speakers are registered, time will be allocated for each oral statement depending on the total number of speakers.

The oral statements can be delivered in English, Spanish or French. Official interpretation will be available.

NGO informal briefings

NGO informal briefings for each State under review at this session will be organised by CCPR-Centre in agreement with the Committee's Secretariat. They will take place from 14.00 to 14.50 in Palais Wilson (room to be confirmed) according to the following schedule:

  • Switzerland - Monday 3 July
  • Liechtenstein - Tuesday 4 July
  • Honduras - Wednesday 5 July
  • Mongolia - Thursday 6 July
  • Swaziland - Friday 7 July
  • Madagascar - Moday 10 July
  • Pakistan - Tuesday 11 July

The NGO informal briefings follow the format of Q&A. Committee members will ask questions to participating NGOs. No need to prepare presentations/oral statements. There will not be a list of speakers. All the NGOs interested in participating at the NGO informal briefings are welcomed. The NGO briefings will be in English and no interpretation will be provided.

These Guidelines give an overview of the reporting process and the role of the NGOs in this process.
